Ryan Kavanaugh on His Vision to Disrupt the Industry

Ryan Kavanaugh is an entrepreneur with a vision for industry disruption. He has consistently led Relativity Media to emerge as a major Hollywood player and is currently a large shareholder and Vice Chairman of the company. In July 2014, Relativity secured a commitment from Strategic Film Partners to finance and market the company’s films, acquiring worldwide rights to hit titles including such successes as The Karate Kid, which has grossed more than $150 million dollars, as well as The Longest Yard, co-financed by Relativity Media, which grossed more than $130 million dollars worldwide, and is now in production for a television adaptation with ABC Studios.

Ryan Kavanaugh is the founder of Relativity Media, which in 2012 was named one of Hollywood’s fastest growing companies. He also founded the Relativity Media Development Company, which has helped cultivate numerous scripts and other motion picture content for feature films, commercials, TV shows, music videos, and more. Ryan Kavanaugh is also known for his executive experience in startup ventures.

His early work with music and the entertainment industry earned him acclaim as the founder of Death Row Records and Music World Entertainment, where he helped bring Tupac Shakur to the worldwide stage and nurture the careers of many other artists. In 2001, Kavanaugh was named CEO of The Asylum, a leading provider of high-quality motion picture and television film content.

He has been an avid entrepreneur since his youth. In college he developed a website for the fashion industry, which he then sold. Kavanaugh has founded and run more than 10 companies since then, and has been involved in several other projects. Ryan Kavanaugh worked with such famous entrepreneurs and investors as Steve Jobs, Gary Vaynerchuk, Sergey Brin, Brad Feld and Roger McNamee. He is a frequent participant of startup events such as TechCrunch Disrupt and Y Combinator.

Ryan is also a guest speaker at SXSW (SXSW Conference and Festivals) and on many other prominent entrepreneurship blogs and news sites. Ryan Kavanaugh is a natural-born philanthropist. His giving has been diverse and impactful in its range. He supports several charities, including The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in California. He has funded two dance scholarships, funds the UCLA Tennis Center and has contributed over $7 million to various charitable causes.
